We are seeking a new surgeon as a Member of the Partnership
The Department of Surgery on Aruba and UO AZV is seeking an enthusiastic general surgeon to succeed a departing colleague, with a focus on innovative care and high-quality treatment. The department comprises seven surgeons and offers the full scope of the speciality, distributed across multiple hospital departments.
GE-ONCO surgery encompasses complex oncological procedures (minimally invasive colorectal and gastric cancer surgery, bariatric surgery), proctology, breast surgery and thoracic surgery (including VATS). Within vascular surgery, the emphasis lies on complex diabetic wound care via our Centre for Advanced Wound Care (CAWC), peripheral endovascular interventions (in collaboration with radiology) and shunt surgery. The department also provides trauma care in close cooperation with orthopaedics. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for complex wounds and infections will shortly be added to the service.
Job description
We are seeking a surgeon with a specialisation in GE-ONCO surgery, including breast surgery. Other profiles or specialisations (such as vascular surgery or trauma surgery) are equally welcome, subject to mutual suitability. The department bears collective responsibility for general surgery, including participation in on-call duties, and offers scope to develop further expertise in your own area of interest. In addition to (out)patient clinical work, you will participate in departmental meetings, provide education to junior doctors, physician assistants, medical students and nursing staff, and work intensively in collaboration with colleagues from other departments.
We require
• A surgeon registered with BIG and RGS.
• A team player who promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Excellent communication skills and a patient-centred approach.
• A sense of responsibility for quality, outcomes and clear communication.
• Proactive, accurate and flexible; able to prioritise and work in a solution-focused manner.
• Excellent command of Dutch and English is required; proficiency in Papiamento and Spanish is an asset.
Terms of employment
The appointment is as a surgeon in independent practice with a contract with the healthcare insurer UO AZV in accordance with the current conditions. The Department of Surgery operates its practice jointly in the form of a partnership. A period as a locum surgeon prior to definitive joining of the department is possible.
