Born and raised on Aruba, and a general surgeon on the island since 2003, after twenty years of study, training and work in the Netherlands.
Drs. Ponson was trained as a general surgeon across the full breadth of the specialty, as is needed on an island like Aruba. After returning to Aruba, he saw the need to establish bariatric surgery because of the island's major obesity problem, and started it in 2004.
Aruba has the only bariatric centre in the former Netherlands Antilles. The centre is well known throughout the Caribbean and serves as the referral centre for the BES islands (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba).
