General surgeon · trauma surgeon
After completing my medical degree, I pursued tropical medicine training and worked in Myanmar, Suriname and Sri Lanka. Since 2022, I have been working with great pleasure as a general surgeon and trauma surgeon on Aruba.
Jacob (Kees) Broertjes was born in The Hague and grew up in Cameroon. From a very early age, he knew he wanted to become a doctor. Initially, he saw himself becoming a paediatrician, but during his tropical medicine training, he was captivated by surgery. After working for one year with Doctors Without Borders in Sri Lanka, he began his surgical training in Amsterdam. He considers himself an all-rounder with a particular interest in trauma surgery, inguinal hernia surgery and shunt surgery. Aspects of surgery that are important to him include: continuous learning, remaining curious, working safely, training others and having the courage to make decisions.
Additional roles: member of the Healthcare Incidents Committee, member of the Infection Prevention Committee and member of the Medical Disciplinary Board of Aruba.
